Christmas Eve
Merry Xmas
1) Due to the growing in demand of presents and globalization, Santa Claus Corporation has decided to move their production from Finland to China. This move has led to an estimated work loss for ten million elves, whose main livelihood come from wrapping gifts and acting as an extra in Lord of The Rings.
2)Due to the influence of idols such as Rudolph, more and more teenage reindeers are getting a nose job.
3)Santa is currently undergoing a lawsuit from World Wildlive Fund(WWF) for ill-treatment of reindeers. Reindeers have been reported to have to travel hundreds of kilometers without any rest, in order to deliver all the presents for the children within a night.
4)Due to the colour of his costume, Santa Claus is officially banned from visiting Thailand.
5)Turkeys experience a mini holocaust once every year during this season.
6)Ever wondered why you never saw Santa in real person? Unless you are living in a landed apartment with a chimney, Santa would never deliver presents to people living in HDB flats. Santa exists, just that nobody told you the harsh truth.
7)An elf working for Santa has been suspected to be the founder of www.santaleaks.com, a website which provides insider information of who's naughty or nice this year.
8)Distributing presents is only Santa's part time job. He is actually a principal at the School of Hogwarts.
Quoted by one of my junior.
Alright, Merry Xmas All. Mad rush to the end of this year. So many outings to attend too and it seems that festive seasons get more happening as you grow older.
For the record, today was the first time ever that I stepped foot into the Bukit Panjang and Gombak Area. the whole place seemed so foreign to me.
Off to sleep. IPPt training tmr.

Insulted
Yup, I admit you are smarter, but can see you are obvious much lazier. You performance in the work that we did was totally atrocious. You had the freaking dare to show me attitude, when obviously, the part that you were in charge of was done with such slip-shot effort , that I somehow suspect what you learnt from PW in junior college.
Nuff said, got to prove all these people wrong man. Sucks to always be the underdog at times. The bar has been raised to a level where it suffocates the living soul out of you.
2 exams in 14 hours. Good luck to me. I need to see the alphabet that I have missed for such a long time already. A. I so need you more than anything else right now. Come back to Papa.

Oh well. essays are finaly done. According to Mao, ( great leader in academic writing), standard still not there yet, but at least, there is significant improvement. Time to be a nerd again this holidays.
May stomach get better. No milk, crap, no dairy products, no ice cream and the superb heavenly milkshake of the deck. Damn.
Ok may Liverpool WIN ah!!! Gerrard has attained the god status. Like seriously. He is like some Megazord, towards the end , like when power rangers always about to be finished off by the bad monsters, out come Megazord, and they will do this synchronised movement, then press a button, and the Bad monsters will collapse and self destruct, just like the Twin Towers. Ok, time to listen to webcasts!

Delinquent Youths?
Just a staring incident, and next thing you know, he is gone.
Stare --> can lead to death. My god, Singapore government banned the sale of firearms, should they ban our eyes from staring too?
Oh well. A song for all the deinquent youths out there.

Mind Block
My life is now about readings, Kant, Hobbes, Lee Kuan Yew, Hungtington. Yes, you can consider al these people my new friends now. Not exactly, not. I am kind of intrigued, cause, back in secondary school days, I actually had some ideas about the world . Those ideas were actually the same as those thought by my friends. A thing to note is that I didn't read their works before, up to now.
Econs or Pol Sci? Interest or Practicality. Not that PS has not much practicality, but somehow, it is still not that practical in terms of the skills I will learn throughout uni. That is what I guess.
Oh well, Liverpool finally won a game after like 2 months. Time for them to keep this momentum. Really, somehow, after this up and down period, support and love for something has gave me new insights. Liverpool case has verified this. When they were 2 seasons ago, the support for them were all time high. I have friends who were like jumping on the bandwagon, shouting out for Benitez, Gerrard, Torres. When they came to Singapore for the pre-season match, National Stadium turned red, not for the Singapore team ironically, but for Liverpool.
When they underperformed, people were shouting for the heads of all the players. I was not an exception. I shouted, ranted, spewed vulgairties and all sorts. Then came one day, when I saw the supporters of newcastle, leeds, and teams other than the big 4. Many of them supported their team throughtout adversity, take in all the insults from critics. Very shameful indeed, looking at the way I behave.
So now, Liverpool is my life and blood. They made me love the colour red, they made me accept my nickname of redporridge. Partially, ( red--> redporridge). They made me know that to be first is not the priority , of course, I very much want them to win almost everything they can. The process of winning, the process in doing the thing, be it the result, good or bad, you must account to yourself, put in you all into it. The FA cup win over West Ham, the UEFA Champions League win over AC Milan, are victories so representatice of my reasons why I support them. Not blind faith, but faith that they have earned for me.
Players do change, I miss the old ones definitely. Change is the only constant of our time, new ones will replace the old ones. The new crop of them should be able to get something out, almost the whole first 11 are internationals, or rather all of them are. To represent the country is already the top honour, unless we manage to find Martians, then we will have this Milky Way Galaxy Cup.
Okies 2 more essays in 5 hours. Please bless me! and of course, Bolton VS Liverpool. Come on lads, I know you can do it =)

Michael Sandel
Really regret over watching the F1 race and the soccer matches. F1 race was exciting, to an extent worth my time, but the soccer matches, disappointing results and coupled with the lousy display of professionalism of the teams. Disgust. First paper was ill prepared. Questions were easy if revision had been done early. Regret.
Procrastination is a pain the ass. It is not entirely a bad thing, it serves as a wake up call. But then, people fall back to their comfort zone, once the painful period ends.
Rest In Peace, Dr Balaji.

Recess!
Now, we are living through lies that the rigid education system we were under since Primary One until JC2. Lies that say that if you pull through the 10 years, you will reach a utopia called University. Where things are at a deeper level but no more shackles or locks around you, you are free to learn and enjoy...
BULL SHIT.
Anyway eventful weekend, went back to VSCO. Emo mo mo. Woke up as usual, but was late this time. Actually , it has been many many times. lol. Went straight to melvin house. Played with snoopy. Such a cute doggy! It won't bite or bark at all! And it really feels like carrying a baby! Hahas! First time I carried a dog. What an experience!

Back to VS !
The trees grew taller, the pond turn murkier( we wonder what current batches of victorians do to it.....), there is a very nice indoor sports hall. We went to CO room. It has became much neater and organised since we graduated, just that all the marks and dents were caused by us were still there. Watching the committee holding their meeting reminds me of the days I was the secretary. Phew time flies!
Quite surprised one senior whom I spoke to quite alot in Sec 1 and 2, remembered my name! Still give me the veyr brotherly feel. Hahas, all of us were as usual, vulgar in the humorous way. After the Jiao Wo Huang Di incident, we going to start a new joke regarding about lecture. Wuahah. seriously the joke of the day manz. I am quite sceptical that it did actually happen though. But, still, we had a freaking good laugh about it.
Tuition was seriously bad. It kind of saddens, when you see that your effort is not reaping rewards. Although you know tuition is not a zero-sum game, somehow inside me, I still refuse to believe it. I am quite thankful how my parents controlled me in the past.
And today is my mum's birthday! Wohoo!
Going to K this amount of notes le. Byes! Totally thrashed my chem notes in MJ.

Long Weekend
Shit, an army of ants is crawling all over my room and I can't find the source of it. Shitz again.
3 essays and 2 mid terms to conquer by end of this month. Sianz. Intense man.
Expected response when I was asked what I want to major. Now, it is more to political science. I mean, it is a strategic choice for me. Less foreigners, maths was not my forte all along. Replies I get were like, so joining PAP? HAHAS! These were the exact predictions the lecturers said of PS majors. It isn't the case man. That is the common misconception people have on FASS, including me. At the end of the day, we are stil open to different industries. Just that, we will lose out on the specific area of knowledge. This also applies to Sci or Eng students who are going for jobs in the corporate sector.
Kz, read and read and read.

Evolution of Blog
Watched the Channel 8 Law show on Mobtv select. I think most people around me have the consensus that Mediacorp Drama sucks big time. To me, the storyline is somehow predictable, but many a time people forget that how the actors protray the whole show is like mapped onto our lives. If only I was studying law...
My dad was saying lawyers are dangerous people. more dangerous than criminals. You will lose to them in arguments, and you never know if they are working for the good or bad. lol. Lucky, I didn't tell him what I wanted to do previoulsy.
Back to main topic, Evolution of Blog. Or rather should I say how social networking sites crafted out the was the blog evolved. Right at the very start, blogs were set up, so that people who wanted to bring the diary into the reality world can do so. You save paper ( but you also wasting crude oil--> burns to produce electricity) , save pen ink, more convenient too. The idea of bringing a physical diary into the computer world seems quite fresh at that time. Humans love fresh ideas, i think.
Graudally, I became one. Just type whatever comes to my mind without thinking. It got to a point when my blog was featured in my school quarterly magazine, that I complained the geog paper was hard to do. Totally no sense, Geog, you have to write alot of content, that was why my hand was feeling tired. Till date, I have doubts over the so called VS journalists. But anyway, by then you have stories that people set up blog not only because of diaries, it became a form of advertising, Both corporate and personal. Corporate, when people start to do advertorials for money, or do food critiques( not really..cause they either get treated for the meal, or get discounts, so youwill have to say soething good about the restuarant). Personal advertising, in a sense, you can let people know your inner thoughts which usually you aren't not that use to saying. Like in school , " Hey , you know what, lets talk about how should morals and ethics be viewed.." Back in VS, guess everyone will just say F U. Hahas, but of course, with a blog, just type whatever you want, and your thoughts will be stored in the online world. Advertising can be another form, when you want to stir up emotions of others or create a fake mask of yourself.
Soon after, there came nuffnang and advertlets. They requests to put advertisements on your blog, and then when people come to your blog and click the advert, you can get abit comission. Iwas one of those who was attracted to this kind of lobang. But of course, now my account i sjust $35. $15 bucks away to recieve the first cheque. But hey it has been like 7 years since I am blogging, and $35 for 7 years??? Just find a kid to give tuition too and you can recoup the money in 2 hours.
Then the social networking sites came in. Facebook, then Twitter. People are totally hooked on FB. I am one of them, Imust admit. Last time, you take hp out to check sms, or check if the person whom you wish to reply to your sms has really replied your sms. Now the first thing we check is fb. Check what on earth is going around on your wall.
A joke: A kid answered her teacher wrongly, so the teacher told the kid to go and face the wall and reflect. The kid took out his Iphone and start to type out the reflections.
So slowly, the blog has been neglected. So now when i look through the list of links under the friends list. 90% are dead already. I guess the attention has all shifted onto fb. Easier to like a post , rather then posting a long stuff on the tagbox. Hahas. Twitter, 140 characters, short and sweet way to convey whatever is on your mind. People find it fast. ME too. Just post a short one will do. Advantage of twitter is that i guess u can say whatever u see or convey any thoughts that come to your mind straight away.
SO where do blogs stand now? You seldom see blogs that goes like this
"today hor, go out with dar dar to marina square . so lub lub him leh, he bought the tix...blah blah blah"
OK maybe u still do la, those ah lian blogs, but i think most blogs are changing to a medium that you want to highlight a problem or ideas. That is what I am noticing. I guess the online population are sick to know what you are doing day in day out. Blogs are still money making machine, if you read through those famous peeps posts, most of them are covered by advertorials, which can rake in a huge sum depending on the readership of the blog.
Blogs are here to stay only for those who want their ideals or ideas to be written down and saved. I think. Sadly, for me, I can't read the life of what my friends are going on. And it actually makes me feel distant from them. Oh well, maybe this is how the world works
Alright 2 more essays to do. Wohoo. Time to go buy dinner. My template sucks big time. But got no freaking time to be bothered about it. SEA SEA. Foreign labour. Hahas. some topic to choose. Make sure i get an A out of it man.
Game Theory, and lagging again
Anw, yeah, back from giving tuition and party. Wan Hsin party! Wonder if you all face the dilemma in parties, like when u are asked to go up to take a pic with the group, but because you feel that you are the minority, then you do not wish to go take it. Just for that moment, you feel a sudden closeness to the minority groups in SG. Hahas, anyway, tdy was the first time I realise at the other end of Pasir Ris Park. there are actually so many chalet flats.
Hmm, so do you say Hi to you facebook fren whom u added like a week ago, or will you just choose to keep quiet, and just in your heart, create and imaginary hello. I chose the latter. ( looks around acting blur). WH cake looked very cool. Macaroons stacking on top of each other!
If you somehow see this FB mutual friend, whom happen to be one of your close friend's friend, and you think that she recognise you, and at that point of time, she happen to be standing beside you, will you choose to keep quiet, or say hi and strike a convor? I chose the latter, and it made me the question I have wanted to ask for 2+ years. We have so many mutual frens, and I have no recollection that we were from the same pri sch and the fact is that we were from the same pri sch. LOL. And then everything falls into place.
So after today, lessons learnt are that Fb has indeed play somewhat, to a large extent, a role in our lives that we cannot ignore or brush aside. Secondly, social interactions are still kind of weird. And the fact is that, if you know the word WEIRD is lingering around, guys guys guys, better do something .
Kz nights. 2 Essays, Econs tutorial, Philo blog posts, Maths tut. Wonderful Sunday ahead.
I joined the Nike 10K race! Wohoo!!! Finally going to use my adidas shoe le. lol

Battleground Analysis
Congratulations!
You have been awarded the TPM service medal! This is our third highest award for outstanding service on the intellectual battleground.
The fact that you progressed through this activity without suffering any direct hits indicates that your beliefs about God are very consistent.
However, you have bitten a number of bullets, which suggests that some of your beliefs will be considered strange, incredible or unpalatable by many people. At the bottom of this page, we have reproduced the analyses of the bitten bullets.
Despite the bullets that you bit, the fact that you did not suffer any hits means that you qualify for our third highest award. Well done!

Wasted...
consideredwasted? I dunno, hope that the neat and tidiness can really settle my mind to study. 3rd week starting and it is so freaking stressed full. People are mugging at the libraries, in the canteen , and every single freaking place. Kinda of sad, like really no life. That led me to want to join the lifesaving team . lol. After considering how "up-there" NUS swimming is up there..
Oh well, 8am lecture tmr. and what the heck am i still doing here.
Sob SOb. the cubs lost the match. What a defensive error. Haiz. Before these games, I think all atheletes should go through a mod on OG1101E. Learn about fairplay, sportsmanship and professionalism. Do a group project with 4-6 countries. Do a 2000 word essay and sit through a 1 hour final year exam consisting of 60 MCQs. Looking at how Haiti tried to waste time and delay the game, absolutely frustrating. But oh well, go for BRONZE Team Singapore!
Wohoo! Heavenly Maths!

Technology Booster
Kinda of irritated by this person who was using the his/her laptop, typing furiously away. Pick u a freaking pen and write la, all the dadadadadada sound. zzz
Another thing is that, we have to keep logging in everyday to check on mail or IVLE to make sure we are not losing out on any stuff. Thank god, I have iphone to check on mails. But, using iPhone to check on IVLE is still not that user friendly. It is kind of a hassle actually.
Philo lecture was a like getting rammed by a truck. It is like a subject without any boundaries. It is not like english, where you knwo the boundaries is just grammar, tenses, and then have a wonderful vocabulary, you just answer the comprehension questions and write good essays. It is not like mathematics, as the boundary is just ask the mathematical questions using all the forumlas. It is not like science, where ok, the knowledge that you learn are all backed up the works of scientists over decades or maybe centuries.
Philosophy is like a subject that you have to think out of the box, no boundaries. Even what you say is crap, can be something that get you an A+. There was one example when the lecturer said that for those philosophy graduates, they may encounter a situation like this :
A lecturer puts a red ball in front of the class. And ask the class to argue whether is it a red ball.
There.you.have.it. So....? I can actally argue that, is the colour of the ball red? Why is it red? Who defined red? Or should I argue in the context of is the ball a ball? can it be a cuboid , or a diamond? Why is it defined it as a ball.
Holy crap.

School Is Back!
After the Orientation camp, played soccer with the bros again. We lost unvaliantly to DHS. Hahas, so sad, lost on homeground. Can see that without NS, everybody are about to die. Ended with a freaking huge ass blister. Nevertheless, fun as usual. Melvin joined in too. He has some fierce strikes in him. Power la.
We had our lunch at PastaMania. It seems that everytime we catch a movie at TM. We are bound to end up at PastaMania. Terry has some freaking long Korean hairstyle. He is so going to stand out among the ah tiongs and ah nehs.
Airbender sucks to the max I think. First thing first, the dialogues don’t make sense at all. I opened my eyes just to watch the CGI effects and that is all. Maybe I should just go watch the cartoon to appreciate this movie even more. Hahas.
Came back home, and did some change to my room. Sunday was mundane, saw Vincent at Bedok Macs.
Monday was National Day. Wohoo! Brings back so much memories 2 years ago, standing at the Marina Bay Platform. Anyway, this year NDP. I was so patriotic until I fell asleep after we sang Majulah Singapura and then to wake up, finding my parents switching off the lights and TV. Zzzzzzz…I am sorry Singapore. Will promise to watch the replay.
Tuesdays are my free day, so am slacking at home again, enjoying the last 24 hours. Supposed to bid for tutorial lessons, but it seems that it will be on this Friday. Hmm….

Reasons not to buy Ipad!
Reasons the iPad Sucks
1. The first version of any Apple product will be outdated soon. It's the First Commandment of Apple consumers: Thou shalt not buy the rookie products. "I'd like all the other 'beta testers' to work out the kinks first," one staffer here says. Sometimes, the launch is completely half-baked. Remember the iPhone's debut? Just months after it hit the market, the 4GB version was scuttled and the 8GB version's price dropped. Fact is, there will be a second tablet within months, and the price will inevitably drop. If you simply must have one, wait for it, because you'll be pretty annoyed when see how much it improves.
2. You don't need a giant thousand-dollar smartphone. You've got an iPhone. You've got a laptop. You just received a Kindle for Christmas. Why do you need a tablet? You're probably not sure. Unlike the iPod and the iPhone, this is a product without a clear need. Unless you deliver FedEx packages, you probably don't need a giant mobile touch-screen device. It won't replace your smartphone, which you carry around in your pocket, or your laptop, which needs a keyboard. Will you want to pay nearly $1,000 to carry around a tablet, along with your mobile phone, your work BlackBerry, your laptop, and your Kindle?
3. You're just going to break it, anyway. Picture yourself with your steaming coffee in one hand, your squirming toddler in the other -- and, somehow, your shiny new Apple tablet, playing Sarah Palin's Fox News clips you missed last night until -- gasp -- your precious Apple escapes and plummets to the floor, shattering into a million little pieces. In The Hunt For Red October, sub captain Marko Ramius observes: "Most things in here don't react well to bullets." Don't expect an Apple tablet to react well to almost anything in the world. Water, soda, food, kids, pets: you'll surely figure out a way to damage your new toy sooner or later.
4. Multifunction devices can do a lot -- just not well. Other than your couch, where might your tablet be more useful than what you're using now? Will you use your tablet instead of the PC at your office desk? Will you watch videos on it instead of your flat-screen monitor? Will you use it instead of your smartphone when you're out? No, no, and no.
5. Buy one, and you might as well wear a "Rob Me!" sign. Carrying a tablet around on public transit, on the street, or in a bar is a needless risk -- yet that's precisely where you're expected to use them. Cellphones stow invisibly in your pocket, and laptops fit innocuously into cases, but if you use the tablet as intended -- on the go -- you're just asking for someone to snatch it. Remember those iPod muggings, with those telltale, enticing white earbuds? Think about that whenever you're tempted to watch last night's Daily Show on the New York City subway.
6. The tablet never caught on -- and there's a reason for that. You do not need to buy a new gadget every time Steve Jobs tells you to. The iPod represented a major evolution over the Sony (SNE) Walkman, and the iPhone escalated the smartphone game. But the tablet seems driven by nothing more than desire. Just take a breath...put the tablet down...and back away...slowly.
7. No keyboard, no mouse, no dice. Typing (or "typing") on touchscreens is annoying. How many Tablet buyers will wind up connecting peripheral keyboards and mice? And then...well, what's the point? Besides, mobile devices are only as useful as their battery life. Unless the tablet has more than about six hours of power, it's going to wind up tethered to a wall. Just like your desktop.
8. Netbooks are cheaper. With a glut of netbooks on the market -- with keyboards! -- offering a full Web experience with significantly less sticker shock than the tablet, there's no reason to go there. If you've got the cash for a tablet, you'd be better off with a MacBook Air, a device with far more functionality packed into its three pounds.
9. Something better's coming. With advances in speech recognition, data input will be changing radically over the next few years. Perhaps more importantly, advances in mobile display technology suggest we'll eventually be projecting images and videos on blank walls, or even into space. Or we'll be wearing headsets that project tiny images of the screen into our eyes at close range. In any event, the tablet is an innovation that'll surely be obsolete within a few years.
10. No Flash! Alex of Applicious says it all: No Flash on the iPhone was barely tolerable. On a device that you call Internet-specific to not have Flash is more than annoying, it’s insulting. Flash, love it or hate it, is one huge slice of the Internet. This is not optional.
11. No multitasking! During his presentation of the iPad, Steve Jobs called netbook cheap laptops. Guess what Steve, I might have a “cheap laptop” but I’m currently typing this post on it with 2 Firefox windows opened, TweetDeck, a Word Document and Flickr Uploader running at the same time. Can your iPad do that? Netbooks are fulfilling a need. The iPad is not. It’s just struggling to create a one. Not having multitasking on the iPad really sucks.
12. No camera! If you’re going to create a mobile device for Mom and Pops, you’d better give it at least a front facing camera because Mom sure loves to Skype her daughter. I didn’t expect a back-facing camera on the iPad, but I sure hoped for a front-facing one.
13. It’s big! Of course it’s big, it’s the purpose of it. Still, I’m confused. Does Apple have to license plus-size pockets as an official iPad accessory?
14. It’s heavy! At 1.5 Lbs, I don’t think you’re gonna be able to hold this baby for 2 hours without developing a tendinitis.
15. No Video Output! If you thought about plugging your iPad in your TV to watch a slideshow of your latest vacation’s pictures, then think again because it’s not going to happen.
16. It’s not pretty! Let’s be honest for a minute, the big fat bezel around the touchscreen is ugly.
17. The keyboard sucks! I didn’t expect the iPad to have a physical keyboard but that won’t prevent me from complaining about it. I hate typing on my iPhone and something tells me I’ll hate typing on the iPad even more because it simply isn’t convenient. When I type on a keyboard, I like to have the screen facing me, not laying down flat because it is unpractical and in the long run, it will most likely cause pain in the neck and back (I’m serious).
18. No USB port! Did you want to plug your digital camera into your iPad to download your pictures. Too bad. Oh wait, you’ll actually be able to if you buy the $30 adapter Apple will be selling. That is mafia-style racketing.
19. No 16:9! Watching movies on the iPad is going to suck as it will render the movies in 4:3 aspect ratio with big black bars around it.
20. No Widgets! Ok, the iPad screen is huge but it actually feels empty. Why don’t we have widgets on this thing? Sticky notes, calculator, whatever widget?
21. The battery sucks! I don’t believe Apple when they say the iPad has a battery life of 10 hours. They were praising the iPhone 3GS battery. I still can’t get through the day without plugging mine in. Play NFS on your iPad for one hour, do a little bit of web browsing for 2 hours, and I bet you your battery will be dead before you can update your Facebook status.
22. The storage limitation sucks! Starting at 16GB, this is a complete joke. If you want me to store my music, videos and photos on your iPad (all this in top of my applications), I’m going to need MUCH more space than the 64GB limit.
23. Reading books on the iPad sucks! The Kindle might not be dead yet after all. I dare you to read a book on your iPad for more than 2 hours. By that time, your eyes will be crying, you’ll most likely have a headache and feel tired. That’s what computer screen do to you. I’m not a big fan of ebooks (I like the smell and feel of books – call me old school) but I do believe the e-ink feature of the Kindle is much better than what we’ll get on the iPad.

Wonderful Holiday!
So much to blog, but left with 3 weeks before the hustle and bustle of studies comes back.
Used to grumble how far it is to school starts, we should work like some dog for the cash that we are going to use up during Uni. And here it is, 3 weeks time, will be heding to NUS which I gonna be at for the next 4 years of my life.
My body is still in the taiwan mood. Sleeping at 4am. ( We pratically watched soccer every single night) and waking up at 1.30pm. and realise that my morning is gone. Shiatz!
KKz, off to dinner. Must perservere to blog. i Must!!!

VS Saga
Straight to topic. This is somehow like the SJI version, whereby the exceutive committee claims to introduce some "ideas" for the greater good of the school. At Victoria, they want VS and VJ to come together for the IP programme, but due to the not so outstanding O levels results of VS, VJ is constantly on the push to either bring in another all girls school, or leave VS in the lurch and set up a programme identical to that of NJC, taking in students from Sec 1.
When I heard of this, I understand where the excos point is coming from. Taking a look at RI, HCI, NJ, it is time Victoria should follow the elites, try to join the so called "Big Four". You know, you can never lose out in this society...
Well, In doing so, I still do not believe you should just chase after things aimlessly. Correct, the elites are heading their own programmes and everything. But take a step back and look, there are students who do not want to be elites, they want an education more than just grades. An all round education. Instead of joining the top, why not review the style of education you are giving, is it the one the students that want to join you craves for?
Furthermore, other than the type of education you want to provide. What about the Roots of where you came from? By bringing in sec 1s into your 6 year programme, you are directly taking students who can enter VS into your arms. If I am a parent now, if I have a choice to got Vs or VJ, I will definitely choose VJ. Why? ultimately, you want your kid to enter University, and VJ obviously will bring you a step closer, cause you have passed the O levels hurdle, you only have 6 years of A lvls to focus on. And by directly challening your affiliated school, and futhermore, the one that gave birth you roughly 30 years ago? That sounds like a grown up adult not wanting to give maintenance fee to their parent.
Guess that are the 2 main points why I am against.
Another thing that should be highlighted is that why MOE is allowing schools to open 6 years programme again? When it was something that rejected like 20 years ago or more, if I am not wrong? In the past before junior colleges were set up, pre-uni education were offered in selective secondary schools. As the demand grew, the government saw the need, and hence built more Junior colleges. And funny thing was that, Meridian, a new JC was built at Pasir Ris to cope the so called increasing demand. And the next thing you see, the Raffles Family combining to offer the IP, then comes NJC, taking in Sec 1, Hwa Chong and Nanyang Girls, then Dunman High and River Valley High coming up with their own stuff, then VJ and TJ with their 4 year Integrated Programme.
What the...??? And with further reports to show that there is more trend of single pointers heading to polytechnics. So will we see Junior Colleges merging sooner or later? Am puzzled why the government go to such lengths to buil 17 JCs and now to allow so man intergrated programmes, greatly reducing the demand for students taking A lvls. Well, you may say give the students more choice, I would see it as a waste of resources.
My 2 cents. =D

Long weekend and Long run ahead!
Talk about saturday, Had to go to fass in the morning, cos my parents want to see how it looks like. But after attending one career talk, they just hang around and left. HUH?? Met up with long lost Mao Lin. Suddenly he is back for more action.lol. With Mr Chew too.
After talking to some of the people at the different booths, just reassured me of what I aimed to do. Will still stick by it. Philosophy is really one subject that will go round and round man. We were like discussing about it with this guy for like half an hour. I was like lost towards the end. "there won't be any end to the whole cycle man." but mr mao seemed so interested.
Lunch at Carl's Junior. Well, just 2 years and so much things happened and change. I was quite taken aback, but at the same time, things were inevitable. One moment, all is well, next moment, u find that u may be unable to walk, and so many complications arise. Thankfully, Mr Mao is all well and will be my fellow faculty mate.
VJCO concert. Missed Chun. Oops. And Pirates of Carribbean is composed by... Ting Kai. Every year he seems to be on some project to come out wth his own compositions. I would rate it as one of the better pieces. Meeting Juniors are very rewarding thing, they greet you, ask how are you. This special bond that surfaces. Even more rewarding when you see someone in the same section, rised to play solo pieces, and furthermore, not the instrument he started out with. Really admirable. Well Done Michael =)
Chionged back to my house, changed and chiong out to Jasmine's bdae. Same location as Ai Ting's party. There was really a compeition for the best dressed. OOps. hahas. As usual, catch up with the seniors. hardcore lan through the night.
Came back home and wasnt a good sight.
Navy open house the next day. Sun was unforgiving. only managed to go up to PV, but saw me ex A Ops Sir!! I was so last for words that I called him Captain. Cos i just stared at the ran. LOL. So qiao. Forgot to take a pic with him =(. Tried to get onto Reso, but failed Terribly. lol. Sian, couldnt go onboard my mother ship. Waiting time to go to the ships were kinda of crazy. some were like 90 mins. They should have screeend the Inter and Bayern match, and I would have considered like joining the queue. LOL
Wow, I taught my kid , and he got top in class. but due to carelessness and they stupidity of the teacher, whole level only 1 person passed by .5 mark. Holy. My kid, failed but topped the class. so ironic. Sometimes, teaching is kind of rewarding, like when u identify his problems, you know it happened to you in the past and you will advice him on ways to rectify it. But then again, he may not heed your advice. Because what you told him, was based on what I have experienced and not him. You can say, he listens, but he may not apply. So this is the tricky part about teaching, you have to really be convincing.
Good day rest at home. Finally changed my atm card, I see a master logo now. Proudly say I have a master in my wallet. LOL. Yea.. finalising everything.woot.

Busy busy
run run run. Didn't know I could complete 14.5km. Wl house to fort road and back. I just can't seem to maintain a constant pace. Just keep playin catch up. Gee. This is bad. 3 more weeks. Time to start the frequency of training.
Onto tv, hooked onto 败犬女王. Completed e whole series, and m back to listening to fish leong's music. I think I m in love with ethan Ruan 0.o... But anyway, key thing lies in communication. You may assume the situation, but then is it truly what happened? In life, many a times we keep waiting for that someone or something to occur, hoping thongs will b back to e same as where it started. and when it does happen, feelings has changed, things has changed, habit has changed and people too has changed.
Survivor had another wonderful episode. Blew my mind off, rusell has completely lose the plot. Tried to spread some rumour, but totally backfired. How could u underestimate the bond between Parvati n danielle? Yes, no doubt u have sacrificed 2 hidden idols for her, but people seldom repay gratitude, instead they only want u to make them feel save. And Parvati n danielle r not stupid, 2 of e smartest players around to sense that something has become fishy. Watching all these is like going through life lessons everyday.
4 more weeks. School please come quickly.

48 Hours
Run and run and run the next day. Not sure if I am making any improvements. totally max out. Kinda of enjoyed the half naked run..hahas...had a con meal at Swensens. Well, the sambal grilled fish was kinda of small in portion, gee. will try the mega burger next time.
IP man was totally a propaganda show. But i liked it cos im chinses. LOL. but ok, the fighting moves were super awesome. Huang Jin Bao still can fight at his age and size. Amazed.
Jay chou's new songs sounds weird. But it has always been the case, his songs need time to get use to.
Oh well, time flies like a freaking torpedo, like the one that sunk the South Korean Warship. left around 6 weeks before going to end work and head for taiwan!!!
Procrastinate and procrastinate. shit. take a gun and shoot me.
Yay, collection of new passport tmr! 3 21st birthdays this mth with the adidas sundown. Woot.

When can I have a full day to myself?
Kinda of like PS one tuition assignment. Didnt want to take up when I was first offered. But being a noob, I said yes. And after much consideration, I gave up 3 hours before the tuition start. What an ass. But then again, kind of pissed off with the tuition coordinator, the manner which she speaks is kind of irritating and with a tinge of arrogance.
I am totally stunned, lost or whatever you can put it in.
Survivor. My god what a show. The producers can't script all these true emotions of the contestants. The stun look, they aren't profressional actors or actresses. Ok maybe I am too into the show or the game. My heart will break to a million pieces if the whole show was a farce. Season 20 is the ultimate season. Episodes after episodes, one being more epic than the previous. But it really reflects the sad reality of how man have become, gone were the days ppl fight with u, suffer together. Now come the dark days where deception and lies are the norm.
Kinda of dark eh.... this entry.
And more customers is getting my wrath. Kinda of getting hooked to pissing them off. LOl. Cheap thrill.

Time flies ..
Anw, Total failblog mission to go to Yishun Safra, wake up late, reached there late. Got pawned by SMRZT bus. Super sianz, until one very good malay uncle told us that we took the wrong bus. Luckily, the bus we took ended up at Yishun Swimming Complex.
Nice weather, nice sun!
Went to gay box the whole afternoon. Been a really long long time since we sang our hearts out! Kinda of ex though, totally blew our pockets. And a note to take when going to kbox, do not wear shorts or a frekaaing thin t-shirt. It is freezing in there. Holy crap. And the new music menu is so confusing, they aren't arranged in alphabetical order.
From Bedok to Yishun to Ang Mo Kio to Bishan to Paya Lebar then to Pasir Ris. Woah, some amazing race stuff. Went to attend unit BBQ. Not any NS unit, but to Citibank CCMU. Eh okies, nice food, and cute kids running around. hahas, but ok la, still abit akward. Just the feeling there, luckily Vict, Min Yu and Guo Ming came. if not i will be so.... Hahas, but thanks again! As sch starts, it means to say the stay at Citi is going to end. Fast fast, Ord until now. Phew.
heading home on 17, as usual long ride. haiz. A month already, will my questions will ever be answered? ...

Elitism in Singapore
"Scoring high in grades but not in values
Elite school students who never mix with others lose perspective
By Sandra Leong
OVER the past two weeks, the words 'meritocracy' and 'elitism' have stirred feelings of loyalty, indignation and dismay all at once.
Just ask the old boys of St Joseph's Institution (SJI), who have been making a very public case for and against the lowering of the school's entry requirements to enable more students from its feeder schools to make the cut.
Meritocracy must prevail, argues one camp. Easing entry requirements will only cause academic standards to slip. But SJI must not become elitist, counters the rival camp. Boys from the Christian Brothers' schools, based on that affiliation alone, should qualify.
The imbroglio once again puts the focus on the uneasy relationship between meritocracy and elitism. A cynical take is that the race to the top will always leave behind stragglers, and those who cross the line first are bound to look down on their weaker counterparts. Given this attitude, it does not surprise me that some SJI alumni are campaigning fiercely against the 'E' word.
I attended Raffles Girls' School (RGS) and Raffles Junior College (RJC), both elite institutions. I confess that as a young adult, I was conceited and felt unsympathetic to the world around me. These days, when people ask me what is my alma mater, I often say I'm a Rafflesian - but a 'recovering' one.
Before I incur the wrath of Rafflesians past and present, let me say I am grateful for the all-rounded education I received. Way before the term 'holistic learning' became a Ministry of Education catchphrase, my $300-a-month secondary school fees in RGS paid for classes in speech and drama, etiquette and philosophy.
My teachers did not teach us to be snobs. But neither did they teach us not to be snobs. As a Rafflesian, one never spoke in terms of examination pass rates. It was the number of As one got that signified one's mettle.
We felt entitled to big things in a merit-driven society where mental dexterity equated strength of character and virtue. We felt so because we had trumped the system, even if it was the 'system' that had allowed us to get this far in the first place.
Intellectual snobbery can be a scary thing. A running joke when I was sitting for the A-level examinations in RJC was that the National University of Singapore law faculty half consisted of Rafflesians. The other half came from 'students from OJ' - other junior colleges.
I did not have a single friend from a neighbourhood school. In our world, we did not see a need to venture beyond what we knew.
Many of my friends came from rich families and lived in the Orchard or Bukit Timah areas. I remember a then 15-year-old friend asking me where I lived.
'Siglap,' I said. She asked quizzically: 'That's where all the Malays live right?'
I never learnt that failure was sometimes an unavoidable option. Two years ago, I sank into a funk when I did not get a scholarship. A non-Rafflesian friend jolted me to my senses when he asked: 'How many people even get to think about doing a master's?'
Growing up this way, you lose perspective. You forget that you belong to a privileged minority, that in the real world there are those for whom a C grade (and not an S-paper distinction) represents the pinnacle of academic achievement - but who may be wiser in many ways than the academically gifted.
It was only when I left the comforts of my flock that I realised how close-minded I was. Unlike some of my peers, I did not win a scholarship or study overseas. I studied at Nanyang Technological University, where classmates told me they were initially wary of me because I was a 'Raffles girl'.
I learnt that brandishing my elite school background, from the way I spoke 'proper English' to wearing my RJC physical education T-shirt around my hostel, rubbed people the wrong way. I learnt there were other ways to win respect without riding on the coat-tails of a brand-name education.
My work as a journalist also quickly brought me crashing down to earth. Loftiness goes out of the window when you have to talk to everyone from politicians to cancer patients to victims of natural disaster.
I hasten to add that for every misguided smart-aleck I encountered among Rafflesians, there were others who were humble and well-adjusted. Still, an Old Rafflesians' Association president once quoted in this paper defined the Rafflesian character as 'predominantly achievement-oriented and goal-driven' - traits I dare say which tend to create a type of ultra-competitiveness that leaves little room for empathy and humility in the absence of a countervailing value-system.
Many of my schoolmates went on to become civil servants, lawyers, bankers and doctors. They keep to the same small social circle they grew up in, married within it and will probably wish the same life for their offspring as well.
I'm not saying they grew up into mean-spirited, Ayn-Rand spouting adults just because they excelled in what they did. The pursuit of intellectual excellence is a virtue that our educational system quite correctly promotes. But the pursuit of intellectual excellence to the exclusion of character or value excellence breeds an exclusionary attitude to the rest of society. Many of the products of our top schools forget they have to give back to the society that allowed them so many opportunities.
It is especially worrying when the exclusionary attitudes bred in school become accepted life values. You judge success using markers that only you and your like-minded friends agree upon. For example, my unmarried girl friends tell me they will never date a man without a degree, a car or a 'respectable' job - and they are entirely unapologetic about it.
These are people who live for years without having to step outside their comfort zone, leading a bubble-wrapped existence.
The sooner that wrap is removed, the better.

She is ajournalist now in SPH. And wow, really echoed my thoughts all this while. We keep thinking how society shuns the poor and disable or the unfortunate ones, but this sets u thinking. An elitist worrying for the elites who will be isolated by the rest of society.
It struck me hard as I was telling AT and WY that Singapore is soon becoming only a place for the rich to stay and the poor to go. It is a harsh thinking , but I guess it is fast becoming a reality.
Anw, yay, trip is settled. As usual, funny reactions from my parents, lure me with cash to buy car, ask me to get tour package, blah blah blah. Somehow, i gave up explaining that, we are on tight budget, correct tours are safer and the itinery is all done up for you. But then , again, the key i feel is that, u put in the effort to come together, plan it, research it. It makes the whole trip so different.
Oh well, all is fine! plan is still on.. Wee!

Ups and Down.
Did something with good intentions, but somehow or rather, people view it in a whole different manner. Domino effect, and one by one it fell.
In difficult times, the support u get from your friends really a motivation to push you through the day. Thanks to my friends colleagues.
Quite an emotional week, everyone were asking me how come I am not staying for OT!
Well, when u cant even handle your stuff, how can you handle customers unruly requests??
Life has been pretty mundane up to now. Don't know what to say man. Sundown coming up, more 21st birthdays coming up, considering to hold my own bdae party, and finally one taiwan trip before school starts.
just so looking forward to the run at macRitchie and the big match tonight!

IPhone tethering... Tethers
"we only accept MacBook with intel chips" I was like WTF...okies. Thanks. And now I can't tether using my iPhone. Total waste of my one hour.
Met upwithgay family! Had a great mahjong session at berg house. Didn't know he lived so near to my grandma house. Tutiion fee was duly paid that night. Haha, a night when Yi Liang almost hit the most wonderful hu. Lts to learn at mahjong. But I will still say poker is my fav=]
A lvl results! 2 years ago, was at home waiting for xavier to book out. In the end, we reached there late. Lol, rushed down by taxi, and had to view the whole announcement thingy via the glass panel. All of us used to have so many promises, but now so much things have changed. Everyone with different committments. Where do the priorities lies? =s
ok.. this post should have been uploaded like last week. lols. and it wasnt completed on an iphone. by my com!
Where is Ying Kai??
He is in it, as a sea soldier. Lol.
And by the way, I am no more in CDS for reservice! Wohoo!

Best Weekend Yet.
Had a hangover. 3 jugs. my good ness for 3 peeps. lol. Woke up groggy. but still, went for a swim with Amos. Sometimes , i wonder if time is really that stretchable..We agreed on 230, then 330, then 4 pm , then the time we started swimming was 5pm. WTH! Anyway, school teachers, should be checking the toenails of school kids!!! Was swimming pass this pri sch boy, who was holding a float and doing frog kicks, he just didnt budge when I was like approcahing. Tried to siam him , but too late. One frog kick grazed the side of my body, and the searing painshot through me!! For a moment, I thought I was bleeding in the pool man. And now back at home, looking at the scar, I think part of my flesh is now floating in Tampines Swimming Pool.
Hmm, finally saw weiliang. Seems so moody about army. Hmm, tried to convince him to go command school bah. Kinda of weird actually, I as a men trying to convince people to go to command school. But anyway, yeah, told him to grab this oppurtunity. When I look back at my NS experience, if you are an A-level kid, really should just whack all out to become an officer. I mean, if you aren't those kind who can stand verbal abuse( like me...) , and you really want to prove your worth and ability, just go ahead, take up the challenge, be somebody, be a second lieutenant. =D Pay is good too, $12k in 12 mths plus another maybe $5-6k, if u know how to save and dun go boozing every weekend, helps alot in your future university studies.
Ok, long ride home. Became all so philosphical with Amos. Wodnerful weekend, enjoyed, exercised, encouraged =D

Happy Chinese New Year 2010!
Haha, a crappy video which I think most of you have watched it at facebook already.
Zoom, reunion dinner was eh, awkward. That is what I feel. Just missed the days of home cooked food. The duck, the prawn, the roast pig, the abalone the scallop, the pink wrapping table. All this in my memories already. This year, went down to long beach restaurant just beside Burger King East Coast Park. Guess complacency sets in when you know you have attained that level of achievement. First thing that we saw in the restaurant is one indian guy as a waiter.
I know it sounds racist...until this point of time.
But the fact i want to point out is , this dude is still wearing his Temasek Polytechnic Polo T-shirt. Diao -_-" He may be a temp staff or what, but at least get him to wear something plain or at least the restaurant's own polo t-shirt. Image totally shattered.
The way the served their food was also quite horrible. Just leave on the table and walked away. Whole family just stared at the food, and was about to go find the waiter, then he walked back with some more plates and then start to distriute the food. Weird eh, I mean for a restaurant with such a reputation, and have been long in this food industry, they still having such basic errors. >_<. JUMBO FTW the next year...!
Countdown show wasn't really that nice this year. Yup yup, for the first time in 21 years, I didn't travelled to the west for any visiting on the first day. Hahas, all at Bedok and Tampines. Lol. Some of my aunts asked if I have entered NS already??? Some asked me if I have gone to the US to study??? ( The most shocking one...) Some asked me how is the life of a debt collector... lol.
Of course, the cousins, Senior ones, got promoted already, as the batch of us have already hit the magical 2, were like discussin how was it in the past. We used to play catching, take out all the toys that my grandma use to store in this huge 1960s cupboard which they still used until last year. Had all the funny toys, used to hone my dribbling skills with this small ball. Lol, played pictionary. Come cny, we use to select sweets, STUFF A HANDFUL INTO OUR POCKETS before we leave whoever's house. Played with sparklers and those POP POP. Used to pour the gun powder into one big one, then when we saw people walking past, will throw and creat a ruckass. LOL.
Come back to 2010, where WHISPER is going to be overtook by IPAD, I see my young cousins, playing with their phones, Nintendo DS Lite, all into thier own world, and do not talk to the rest of the cousins who are of the same age. Elder cousins will huddle one corner, talk about life, stocks , work, relationships, future plans.
You definitely feel super old when you are questioned about when you are getting married and when are you planning to have more kids. HAHA.

Crappy Day.
I mean what is wrong with them seriously. Can't take it. I am going to NUS man, not going to like some PAP Kindergarden. Crap.
Off to sleep man, Pirates of the Caribbean wrapped the night for me.
Month of jan whizzed by!
Just attended the first 21st birthday party for this year. Mr Melvin Lee's. Hahas, bdae man... no more boy liao, travelled all the way to city hall just to meet me after my work . so touched. actually he had some other plans de la. had some indo grilled food before heading yo his chalet. Everyone should try the indo grilled food when they are at suntec, it is yummyy and economical.(for places in the CBD).

Blog Revival
Kz, skin was copied from Yiliang. hahas. Declare it first.
Lon time since a did long and focused post, but of course not today, looking at the time left for me to go to sleep. Hahas.
Changes from ORD until now. Hmm, there aren't much actually. Maybe I am so used to the booking and out thingy every single day. Oops, going to piss to many ppl off. And the thing is that, though I am a combatant, the work I did back onbaord ship when she is in harbour is so office work kind. So more or less, comping well.
Back to civilian job, well, I never once know that I will grow up to become ah long. A legal one somemore. Hahas. Nice working environment to work with, alot of peeps of my same age and hence, more same talking points to discuss. Of course, all the permanent stuff there are older than me, but all are quite young, most are university graduates. Yeah. Of cos, realise that time management is so important, target setting can stress you out really, short forms become a new language. Sortcuts on keyboards seem like some combo keys on a PS3 controller. Empowerment becomes a great tool.
When we were young, we use to buy those billabong pencil cases, wallets. Or even those mechanical pencils, digimon devices, some stupid top that spins when u insert those jagged plastic thingy, go to those machines that eats 20cents coin and give u a digimon card. Right now, when I think of buying something, I will convert it into the number of hours I have to work before I make the purchase. Like what our parents used to nag , "money is hard to earn!". It is so true. Every penny that I earned came with my sweat, shivering, tolerance against insults heard at me, the arrogance of rich nasty ppl which comes to you like a splat of phelgm. Hard Earned.
Back to my lovely bed again. 3 days in a row, hardcore OT. plus a timbre outing with colleagues and first 21st party of the Year this saturday!!!
