Michael Sandel

Spent the whole day listening to his Harvard lectures. Really very intriguing. And i think it boosted my knowledge of philospohy up by a few notches If only lectures in NUS were that interesting. The sad thing in NUS is that students are not that vocal. I am one guilty party. We still have the fear of what if we say something wrong, it will seem as though I have thrown my face. This what i dub the "classroom malu-ness" syndrome. This is the result of the asian upbringing and most importantly, the passive learning of the Singapore education system.

Really regret over watching the F1 race and the soccer matches. F1 race was exciting, to an extent worth my time, but the soccer matches, disappointing results and coupled with the lousy display of professionalism of the teams. Disgust. First paper was ill prepared. Questions were easy if revision had been done early. Regret.

Procrastination is a pain the ass. It is not entirely a bad thing, it serves as a wake up call. But then, people fall back to their comfort zone, once the painful period ends.

Rest In Peace, Dr Balaji.

Draw.

I don't know what else to say. Home ground. Fresh 11. First team. All are international players. And what kind of crap result are you all producing. Stop passing the fucking ball back to the defenders. Fucking do your runs and not just stay there and shout for the ball, do it for the team and do it for yourself.

Disappointing.

And damn. School is starting. First thing in school. Exam. Wtf.

Recess!

If only the recess is really like the recess we used to had in Primary school, running around, playing hopscotch, using tennis balls as "min-footballs", life will be so good. Like easily acing the PSLE...
Now, we are living through lies that the rigid education system we were under since Primary One until JC2. Lies that say that if you pull through the 10 years, you will reach a utopia called University. Where things are at a deeper level but no more shackles or locks around you, you are free to learn and enjoy...

BULL SHIT.

Anyway eventful weekend, went back to VSCO. Emo mo mo. Woke up as usual, but was late this time. Actually , it has been many many times. lol. Went straight to melvin house. Played with snoopy. Such a cute doggy! It won't bite or bark at all! And it really feels like carrying a baby! Hahas! First time I carried a dog. What an experience!

We start to siao chiong butterfly strokes and took some pics! Hahas. A good meet up as usual =) Next one will be when Shawn is back!!!

Back to VS !

Went back to VS, for this VSCO gathering. Thank the ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex chairman , Lin Xu Guang, for organising. 20++ people came, quite a ok turn out I guess. Just find it weird that some people say that why we aren't meeting up, but when there is an oppurtunity to have a good gathering , they just rejected it. Haiz, puzzled.
The trees grew taller, the pond turn murkier( we wonder what current batches of victorians do to it.....), there is a very nice indoor sports hall. We went to CO room. It has became much neater and organised since we graduated, just that all the marks and dents were caused by us were still there. Watching the committee holding their meeting reminds me of the days I was the secretary. Phew time flies!

Quite surprised one senior whom I spoke to quite alot in Sec 1 and 2, remembered my name! Still give me the veyr brotherly feel. Hahas, all of us were as usual, vulgar in the humorous way. After the Jiao Wo Huang Di incident, we going to start a new joke regarding about lecture. Wuahah. seriously the joke of the day manz. I am quite sceptical that it did actually happen though. But, still, we had a freaking good laugh about it.

Tuition was seriously bad. It kind of saddens, when you see that your effort is not reaping rewards. Although you know tuition is not a zero-sum game, somehow inside me, I still refuse to believe it. I am quite thankful how my parents controlled me in the past.

And today is my mum's birthday! Wohoo!
Going to K this amount of notes le. Byes! Totally thrashed my chem notes in MJ.

Long Weekend

Long weekends are shiok to all NS personnel, working peeps. It is never good for school students. Spend my whole afternoon reading on bandits. On how it played a major part in shaping the world today.

Shit, an army of ants is crawling all over my room and I can't find the source of it. Shitz again.

3 essays and 2 mid terms to conquer by end of this month. Sianz. Intense man.

Expected response when I was asked what I want to major. Now, it is more to political science. I mean, it is a strategic choice for me. Less foreigners, maths was not my forte all along. Replies I get were like, so joining PAP? HAHAS! These were the exact predictions the lecturers said of PS majors. It isn't the case man. That is the common misconception people have on FASS, including me. At the end of the day, we are stil open to different industries. Just that, we will lose out on the specific area of knowledge. This also applies to Sci or Eng students who are going for jobs in the corporate sector.

Kz, read and read and read.

Evolution of Blog

Didn't wake up as early as I would hope to.

Watched the Channel 8 Law show on Mobtv select. I think most people around me have the consensus that Mediacorp Drama sucks big time. To me, the storyline is somehow predictable, but many a time people forget that how the actors protray the whole show is like mapped onto our lives. If only I was studying law...

My dad was saying lawyers are dangerous people. more dangerous than criminals. You will lose to them in arguments, and you never know if they are working for the good or bad. lol. Lucky, I didn't tell him what I wanted to do previoulsy.

Back to main topic, Evolution of Blog. Or rather should I say how social networking sites crafted out the was the blog evolved. Right at the very start, blogs were set up, so that people who wanted to bring the diary into the reality world can do so. You save paper ( but you also wasting crude oil--> burns to produce electricity) , save pen ink, more convenient too. The idea of bringing a physical diary into the computer world seems quite fresh at that time. Humans love fresh ideas, i think.

Graudally, I became one. Just type whatever comes to my mind without thinking. It got to a point when my blog was featured in my school quarterly magazine, that I complained the geog paper was hard to do. Totally no sense, Geog, you have to write alot of content, that was why my hand was feeling tired. Till date, I have doubts over the so called VS journalists. But anyway, by then you have stories that people set up blog not only because of diaries, it became a form of advertising, Both corporate and personal. Corporate, when people start to do advertorials for money, or do food critiques( not really..cause they either get treated for the meal, or get discounts, so youwill have to say soething good about the restuarant). Personal advertising, in a sense, you can let people know your inner thoughts which usually you aren't not that use to saying. Like in school , " Hey , you know what, lets talk about how should morals and ethics be viewed.." Back in VS, guess everyone will just say F U. Hahas, but of course, with a blog, just type whatever you want, and your thoughts will be stored in the online world. Advertising can be another form, when you want to stir up emotions of others or create a fake mask of yourself.

Soon after, there came nuffnang and advertlets. They requests to put advertisements on your blog, and then when people come to your blog and click the advert, you can get abit comission. Iwas one of those who was attracted to this kind of lobang. But of course, now my account i sjust $35. $15 bucks away to recieve the first cheque. But hey it has been like 7 years since I am blogging, and $35 for 7 years??? Just find a kid to give tuition too and you can recoup the money in 2 hours.

Then the social networking sites came in. Facebook, then Twitter. People are totally hooked on FB. I am one of them, Imust admit. Last time, you take hp out to check sms, or check if the person whom you wish to reply to your sms has really replied your sms. Now the first thing we check is fb. Check what on earth is going around on your wall.

A joke: A kid answered her teacher wrongly, so the teacher told the kid to go and face the wall and reflect. The kid took out his Iphone and start to type out the reflections.

So slowly, the blog has been neglected. So now when i look through the list of links under the friends list. 90% are dead already. I guess the attention has all shifted onto fb. Easier to like a post , rather then posting a long stuff on the tagbox. Hahas. Twitter, 140 characters, short and sweet way to convey whatever is on your mind. People find it fast. ME too. Just post a short one will do. Advantage of twitter is that i guess u can say whatever u see or convey any thoughts that come to your mind straight away.

SO where do blogs stand now? You seldom see blogs that goes like this

"today hor, go out with dar dar to marina square . so lub lub him leh, he bought the tix...blah blah blah"

OK maybe u still do la, those ah lian blogs, but i think most blogs are changing to a medium that you want to highlight a problem or ideas. That is what I am noticing. I guess the online population are sick to know what you are doing day in day out. Blogs are still money making machine, if you read through those famous peeps posts, most of them are covered by advertorials, which can rake in a huge sum depending on the readership of the blog.
Blogs are here to stay only for those who want their ideals or ideas to be written down and saved. I think. Sadly, for me, I can't read the life of what my friends are going on. And it actually makes me feel distant from them. Oh well, maybe this is how the world works

Alright 2 more essays to do. Wohoo. Time to go buy dinner. My template sucks big time. But got no freaking time to be bothered about it. SEA SEA. Foreign labour. Hahas. some topic to choose. Make sure i get an A out of it man.

Game Theory, and lagging again

Oh yeah, just checked the philo blog, and I am lagging like a Singaporean athlete in the YOG.

Anw, yeah, back from giving tuition and party. Wan Hsin party! Wonder if you all face the dilemma in parties, like when u are asked to go up to take a pic with the group, but because you feel that you are the minority, then you do not wish to go take it. Just for that moment, you feel a sudden closeness to the minority groups in SG. Hahas, anyway, tdy was the first time I realise at the other end of Pasir Ris Park. there are actually so many chalet flats.

Hmm, so do you say Hi to you facebook fren whom u added like a week ago, or will you just choose to keep quiet, and just in your heart, create and imaginary hello. I chose the latter. ( looks around acting blur). WH cake looked very cool. Macaroons stacking on top of each other!

If you somehow see this FB mutual friend, whom happen to be one of your close friend's friend, and you think that she recognise you, and at that point of time, she happen to be standing beside you, will you choose to keep quiet, or say hi and strike a convor? I chose the latter, and it made me the question I have wanted to ask for 2+ years. We have so many mutual frens, and I have no recollection that we were from the same pri sch and the fact is that we were from the same pri sch. LOL. And then everything falls into place.

So after today, lessons learnt are that Fb has indeed play somewhat, to a large extent, a role in our lives that we cannot ignore or brush aside. Secondly, social interactions are still kind of weird. And the fact is that, if you know the word WEIRD is lingering around, guys guys guys, better do something .

Kz nights. 2 Essays, Econs tutorial, Philo blog posts, Maths tut. Wonderful Sunday ahead.

I joined the Nike 10K race! Wohoo!!! Finally going to use my adidas shoe le. lol
