It feels so liberating to blog. Words can mean so much when written properly and expressed clearly.

Well, the academic journey has come to an end. It is time to enter the Hobbesian World.

The real world.

D-Day

One more day to D-day... Trembling trembling.

Anyway, the recent video about the massage uncle has taken Singapore by storm. It is a very sneaky and effective marketing campaign for the jobs search company. If only I was tasked to come up with one advertisement for my previous company, maybe my end product will be taking Singapore by storm right now. LOL. A quick check has shown that two of the four girls are married with kids. My jaws dropped when I heard about it. What's more, one of them is only 19 years old and the kid is already 3 years old if I am not wrong. Wow, that's what you can do with good looks. Earn big bucks at a young age!

I can forsee an exciting December 2012 for me! One long trip and nothing but work!

Sick of all this writing man.
Come on HZ. You can do this. Come on.

Wonderful win by Liverpool tonight =) Please continue winning to keep me smiling throughout the entire exam period. I have yet to wear the crown paints jersey. Please continue to win and I hope it will bring me luck during exam.

Sometimes, through a set of 90 minutes, we can see how important luck is. Luck can either do or break the team.

I don't know why the fourth finger on my left hand is hurting like a bitch. There is this tingling and swollen sensation to it. I suspect my nail has gotten into my flesh. That is just a guess. Haiz. Hopefully, it can recover when I apply some medicine to it. Hurts like a bitch when I type. This stupid problem has to come at a wrong time.

Well, Luck. Where are you? I need you so badly right now.

Final Push

THis is really a depressing week. Got back some results which were quite shitty. I have already given in my all and yet this is what I get. This is the same old story for the past few semesters.

Sometimes I wonder, what more can I do. Or rather, should I not do anymore? I want to go out and work, experience the real world, move on to something practical. But the question will be, will I get a good one? I don't mind settling for something less of my expectations, but then again, everyone will be saying first job is important. I am worried now because I have seen seniors who are still searching for jobs even after graduating for close 6 months already.

One more essay due this tuesday and I can heave a sigh of relief. I really want this to be good. At least give me something that I can be proud of. People can get the grade easily. I just want my efforts to be recognised. Just give me this once will do.

The time to make the final push is here. The stress has once more arrived. it is getting sickening every semester. But I will strive hard again once more. I believe I can do it. Budhha, please give me all the strength that I need. Just need to build on the momentum.

Come on.

Back~=!

I am back because I realized that I should be blogging more often for the sake of my academic results.
However, it is a tad too late. It is already my second last semester!

Anyway, my professor launched a scathing attack on us, the students. It was quite shocking, but nevertheless, acceptable to me. He questioned how did we managed to get into NUS with our appalling standard of our English, as reflected in our essays. Of course, everyone were quite disappointed to hear that. Not because our English were bad, but it is our grade that sounds bad. Hahas!

I do admit that our English standard is appalling. On hindsight, I believe my level of written english is much higher then in my MJ days. At that time, we were practicing almost week in and week out. But once you spend 2 years in National Service, and then when you are thrown back into university, there it goes. The light of writing beautifully just flickered off.

I have not one to blame but myself. Writing is just like mathematics. Practice makes perfect. This is one of the world's natural laws by the way. (as claimed by me). If you ignore that golden formula, then I guess everything will just go downhill.

Alright, Lunch time. More ranting will be coming from me over these few days!

NO sympathy

Results are out and so are the true colors of many people.

Yes, this may offend many people and I am not surprised if this will be seen by many other people.
Why? Very simple. People place you ahead of other people and you are pushed down the rungs and ta da, who cares about the pack you all had before?

Anyway, this post will be a short rant about bell curve. Of course, it is one of the best tool to help the institution to sieve out and differentiate the better students from the lot. People who are the cream of the crop are truly cream of the crop as they stands out among their peers. Fair enough.

From the perspective of the institution, it helps them greatly as the value of the degree is maintained. Firstly, the value of the As will never change as they are only reserved for the certain few at the top of the league. This will never change even with different batches of students that matriculate into the universities every year.

Relativity plays an important role. We all do know that security dilemma do leads to negative consequences even though it is supposed to benefit individual's interest in the long run. In a bell curve scenario, you are graded based on your performance relative to your peers. There can be extreme scenarios such as the entire cohort taking the particular module scoring 90 marks and above. But due to the fateful intervention of the bell curve-god, the person getting 90 marks may get a C- or even lower, depending on the criteria laid out by the academic institution. The other disastrous scenario could be the entire cohort getting 20 marks or below, out of a score of 100. And guess who gets the A? The student with 20 marks!

It may sounds incredulous, but yes, I must admit it is still one of the best method to differentiate the strength of each student. However, there is the other side of the story.

Like I have mentioned previously, security dilemma is the unforeseen spillover effect of the implementation of bell curve. In order to feel assured that you have studied enough, you will always think that you have not studied enough as compared to your peers (Think about that for a second... sounds like a trick question... or maybe take an additional five seconds...) . I am right, right? Yes, don't deny. Those people who will reject the previous statement will be those who seems to be so busy with every CCA in the school and are able to get the 1st Class they so desire with the least effort. Yes, these people do exist, and of course they are the minority. At the end of the day, nil sine labore. Nothing without labour. Most people who get good grades are still the ones who put in the effort and also, the ones who studied strategically.

The side effects of such a "Security dilemma" or should I say "Study dilemma" is all to see. Slogging late into the night, churning down copious amounts of coffee, endless use of paper, plastic-free enlargement of the eye bags. This are the tangible effects of the spiral race. What about the intangible ones? Yes, they may not be visible now, but I am sure they are slowly building up right now. Who knows? The low birth rate may be due to all this stress, wear and tear that was built up 10-20 years ago...Moving on...

The focus that I want to emphasis is the ugliness of some people. For the record, I am using the word some people. Yes, it is one of the 36 strategies that Sun Tze has advocated. The art of deception. How do I apply it to reality? Well, people just deceive you by telling you, or should I use the word, fooling you to believing that they will be doing that badly and not study that much. The "Lies" or methods deployed  include acting like a victim on twitter, pleading for attention on fb, spamming tweets on twitter to show that they are indeed "busy", incessantly asking you if you did study, then start to come up with thousand and one excuses that they didn't study, or it can be the case whereby they admit that they studied and later on said that they didn't focus when they study. *POOF* When the results are released, I will start singing "I see your true colours".

Bitch Please.

Seriously.

Anw, congrats to all those who have done well. You earned it.
For the rest, I don't want to go so holy and say anything. I am not someone with fantastic grades.
Let's just fight hard, be ourselves, for life has its own way out.

*Just want to thank everyone who has been so supportive for me for the past weeks and years*

Quite grateful to have a junior who can actually sense your mood and point out to you the damage I have been doing to myself. You know who you are. I want to thank you. To know that someone actually care for you even without frequent catch up is really touching. A feeling that is are to describe.

Never Give Up and never forget to labour hard for what you set out for yourself!

This is really nonsensical. Utterly ridiculous.

2nd Week of Internship

Aloha one and all!

I have yet again broke my promise of updating this holy diary of mine. Here I am, doing it via the wonders of the iPhone.

It has been the second week of internship. It has been an eye opener. The speed of how the public sector worked efficiency and speed is te key to success. No need for qualifications. Just your adaptability.

The process of learning is steep an tough. Nothing is easy in this worlds even controlling a Ferrari with a mistress inside or maybe taking taxi as a career. I shall talk about that some other time.

It has been a good training so far. Yhr company I am in forces me to learn everything and anything that is on the table. All has been well, but it can be demoralising of you do not meet the KPI.

Other than work, life is just about movies and sleep. Damn this is really bad. I aimed to complete a book at the end of every week, but obviously, no motivation to do it. Argh.

My 2.4 is in a disastrous timing. What's worse, I can only do it once a week. Over the weekends. Weekdays is totally a no no for me. Oh well.

Promises. We made them. And today, I received another answer. It hurts. All this while, has it been worth the time and sacrifice?
